Fortune Cat is a barbershop in Denver, CO. The owner, Jesse Diaz had been cutting hair for a few years but always dreamed of opening his shop. When he envisioned his shop he would often thing of his great grandfather. Pete Maniatis was a greek immigrant, firefighter, pool hall owner and small electronics technician. A self made man in every sense of the word. The afternoons spent in Grandpa Pete’s basement looking through baseball cards, attempting to rebuild 8 track players and learning new swear words helped form the building blocks of Jesse and his soon to be barbershop. The name, was a spin off of something Pete used to call Jesse, his little luck box. Jesse talked of remembering all of Pete’s (or Grumpy as everyone called him) trinkets lining the wall, how much he loved seeing what new treasures joined the shelves from his last visit. This curiosity led to not only the name and mark but the tone of voice and general aesthetic of the shop itself.
